What Are Dentures?

A denture is an oral attachment that replaces missing teeth and surrounding oral tissue. There are two types of dentures available: complete dentures and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all teeth are missing. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

The staff at Vasilios "Bill" J. Pavlakos, DDS, PC General & Cosmetic Dentistry perform skilled denture applications for patients in need. Call us today for denture services, or request an appointment from us.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are characterized as "conventional" or "immediate." Immediate dentures are made prior to the teeth being removed so it can be place immediately in your mouth once all your bad teeth have been extracted.

Conversely, conventional dentures are placed in the mouth eight to twelve weeks after the teeth have been removed and the patient's oral tissue has had time to shrink and heal.

Dentures are made to resemble the natural teeth of your mouth, so there shouldn't be a noticeable change to your appearance. In fact, it's entirely possible the dentures will improve your smile and fill out your facial appearance.

Partial Dentures

A removable partial denture contains replacement teeth that are attached to a gum-colored plastic base. The base is connected by a metal framework that holds the denture in place in your mouth.
